Driving lessons in Westmeath, with an instructor who knows your test routes.
Two test centres in the county: Athlone and Mullingar. We learn the roads out of both, from the R446 through Athlone town to the Greenpark Roundabout and the N52 bypass in Mullingar.
Two test centres in Westmeath. We know the routes out of both.
Most learners think the test is luck on the day. Actually, it is the route, and the route is different at each centre. Athlone crosses the Shannon and works the busy R446. Mullingar threads the town, then puts you out on the N52 bypass at 100. We match you with an instructor who teaches on the roads of your centre.

Mullingar
Lessons in your town, not a long drive away.
From Athlone on the Shannon across to Kinnegad on the Meath border. Pick your town to meet your local instructor.
Westmeath roads, taught by local instructors.
Most people pick a driving school on price, then sit a test on roads they have never driven with that instructor. In Westmeath that is a real gap. The Athlone test crosses the Shannon and works the busy R446. The Mullingar test threads Austin Friars Street and Castle Street, then puts you out on the N52 bypass at 100. Two centres, two very different drives.
Westmeath is flat lake country. Lough Ree on the Shannon at Athlone, Lough Owel and Lough Ennell either side of Mullingar. The roads are a fair mix: town centres with one-way sections, quiet estates for your manoeuvres, and rural stretches like the N55 with blind summits where observation does the work. We teach you on those exact roads, not a generic set.
You learn on your roads, with the same instructor, at your own pace. That is most of the secret. Whether you are a teen on your first lesson in Moate or a returning driver near Kinnegad, we line you up with your local instructor and the routes you will actually be tested on.
The roads you will learn on
- M6 / N6The M6 motorway crosses the south of the county on the Dublin to Galway run, but learners stay off it until they pass. The N6 Athlone bypass is open to you, and the examiner can use it to test your merging at speed.
- M4 / N4The Dublin to Sligo route runs east to west and bypasses both Kinnegad and Mullingar. The M4 motorway is off limits to learners, but the N4 dual carriageway by Mullingar is open to you and the test can use it.
- N52The inner relief road and bypass around Mullingar carry the test's dual-carriageway section. Merging at 100 and leaving safely are the skills examiners watch.
- N55North from Athlone toward Ballymahon and Cavan. A largely straight rural road with blind summits and hidden dips, so it rewards good observation and steady speed.
- Lake roadsWestmeath is flat lake country. Lough Ree, Lough Owel and Lough Ennell sit close in. The local roads are narrow, with bends and changing surfaces.

"I passed my test in first attempt from Killester. Many thanks to my instructor Florin for giving me driving lessons. He's the best teacher out there."
"I had two pre test lessons with Richard, and they helped so much before the test. He was able to see my faults, explain them to me fully and correct them. I would highly recommend him."
The things people ask us about Westmeath.
Where will I sit my driving test in Westmeath?
There are two test centres in the county. Athlone is at McCormacks Shopping Centre on the Dublin Road (N37 Y0X8), and it covers the west of the county. Mullingar is at the Government Offices in Bellview Estate, also on the Dublin Road (N91 HDA2), and it covers the east. We teach the routes out of both.
Do you cover the smaller towns, not just Athlone and Mullingar?
Yes. We cover the whole county: Moate, Kilbeggan, Kinnegad, Castlepollard, Delvin, Rochfortbridge, Killucan, Glasson and the rest. Tell us your town and we line you up with your local instructor.
How many lessons will I actually need?
Every new learner does the 12 EDT lessons by law. After that it depends on how much you have driven. Some people are ready, some want a handful of pretest lessons on their test routes first. We will tell you straight where you are, not sell you lessons you do not need.
Can I learn in an automatic, or only a manual?
Both. Most learners go manual so the licence covers everything, but if an automatic suits you better, that is no problem. Just remember a test passed in an automatic licenses you for automatics only.
