Driving lessons in Limerick, with an instructor who knows your test centre.
Three test centres serve the county: Castlemungret on the Dock Road, Woodview on the north side, and Newcastle West out west. We know the roads around all three.
Three test centres in Limerick. We know the routes out of all of them.
Most learners think the test is luck on the day. Actually, it is the route, and the route is different at each centre. All three Limerick centres sit a shade above the 52.3% national average: Castlemungret passed 53.0% of car tests in 2023, Woodview 52.9%, and Newcastle West 53.1% (RSA figures). We match you with an instructor who teaches on the roads of your centre.

Lessons in your town, not a two-hour drive away.
Limerick runs from the city out to the west county roads. We match you with an instructor who covers your end of the county and teaches on your nearest test centre.
Limerick roads, taught by local instructors.
Most people pick a driving school on price. That is how you end up with a stranger who has never driven the Coonagh roundabout or the Dock Road in rush hour. Limerick is not one driving environment, it is several. The north side around Caherdavin and Woodview is older estates and tight junctions. The south side around Raheen and Dooradoyle is big roundabouts and fast main roads. Out west, Newcastle West is the N21 and rural lanes.
That matters because your test starts the moment you leave the centre. From Castlemungret you are straight onto the Dock Road and the Dooradoyle roundabouts. From Woodview you are into narrow Caherdavin streets and the Ennis Road. From Newcastle West you are mixing town one-way streets with the N21. An instructor who knows which centre you are sitting can spend your lessons on the roads you will actually drive.
We cover the whole county, from the city out to Adare, Rathkeale, Kilmallock and Abbeyfeale. Same instructor each time, your local roads, your nearest test centre. That is most of the secret.
The roads you will learn on
- N18 / Dock Road and the Limerick TunnelThe Dock Road carries N18 traffic past the Castlemungret centre, with HGVs from the docks and the industrial estate. The Limerick Tunnel takes the route under the Shannon toward Shannon, Ennis and Galway.
- N21 (Limerick to Tralee)The main road through west Limerick, running through Adare, Rathkeale, Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale. Fast national road one minute, town speed limits the next, which is exactly what the Newcastle West test works.
- N20 / M20 (Limerick to Cork)The Cork road south through Patrickswell and on past Croom and Charleville. Dual sections and slip-road merges mean confident joining at speed.
- N24 (Ballysimon to Tipperary and Waterford)Runs south-east out of the city along the Ballysimon road toward Tipperary and Waterford. Commuter traffic and changing speed limits on the way in and out of Limerick.
- N69 (the coast road to Foynes and Kerry)The Shannon estuary road west through Askeaton, Foynes and Glin. Quieter and rural, with farm traffic and long single-carriageway stretches.

The things people ask us about Limerick.
Where is my driving test centre in Limerick?
The county has three. Castlemungret is in the industrial estate on the Dock Road on the south-west side. Woodview is at the Woodview Shopping Centre on the Old Cratloe Road on the north side. Newcastle West is at the Intreo Centre in Gortboy. Tell us your town and we will line you up with the right one and the roads around it.
Do you cover West Limerick and the rural towns?
Yes. We cover Newcastle West, Abbeyfeale, Rathkeale, Adare and the smaller villages out the N21 and N69. Most west Limerick learners sit their test at Newcastle West, so we focus your lessons on the town and the rural roads around it.
How many lessons will I actually need?
Learner permit holders do the twelve Essential Driver Training lessons by law. After that it depends on you. Some people are test-ready soon after, others want a few pretest lessons on their centre's roads first. Your instructor will tell you straight where you are, not sell you lessons you do not need.
Can I learn in an automatic, or only manual?
Both. Manual is the usual choice because it lets you drive any car after. If an automatic suits you better, that is fine, just remember an automatic test gives you an automatic-only licence. Tell us which you want when you book.
